Installation and operation of a UV index and cloud cover measuring station in Kerguelen

The UV-KER project proposed here consists in installing a total sky imager at the Kerguelen station to measure the atmospheric cloud fraction and a broadband UV radiometer to measure the UV index. The objective is to keep these two instruments in operation for a few years and to re-calibrate them if necessary. It will allow fine monitoring of UV radiation and cloud cover over the medium/long term in this region of the world where almost no equivalent ground-based measurements are made. UV radiation is an important and commonly used proxy in many physical, environmental and biological studies.
